Advantages of Using Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning
Claude Louis-Charles, PhD
Artificial intelligence and machine learning are arguably some of the areas whose popularity and desire for exploration have been on the rise over the past decade. While artificial intelligence entails the development of systems whose performance involve intelligence o human beings, machine learning is a branch of artificial intelligence (McGuinness, 2018). Machine learning entails the use of a set of algorithms which help in predicting possible trends in the future depending on the existing user data (Pappas, 2017). Machine learning is done through the identification of patterns and trends which are followed by a prediction of trends. In professional development, both machine learning and artificial are essential and play a very crucial role in training and professional development.
First, they facilitate the provision of personalized training contents to the learners. This personalized presentation of contents comes from the fact that machine learning’s algorithms use prediction and this prediction is based on the individual’s learning goals as well as his performance in the past (Pappas, 2017). This implies that when an individual has a specific skills gap, the system learns these gaps and provides recommendations that will help to build on the weak areas as well as abilities.
Secondly, machine learning and artificial intelligence facilitate better resource allocation among the trainees and the trainers. According to Pappas (2017), using this technology in professional development and training allows resources to be allocated based on the existing need of the learners. In this regard, machine learning and artificial intelligence ensure that resources are allocated the resources that they need and therefore, there is no wastage (Pappas, 2017). Furthermore, the trainers take less time analyzing assigning content considering that Big Data allows for easier analysis.
Thirdly, artificial intelligence and machine learning allow for easier and automatic scheduling of process as well as delivery of the learning contents. This automation occurs since most of the time-consuming and tedious work goes on behind the scenes, and people are not involved (Pappas, 2017). For instance, when the coursework is scheduled depending on the results of the learning assessment as well as performance simulation. According to researchers, it will be possible for the automatic generation of unique maps for courses taken by the learners (McGuinness, 2018).
Fourthly, machine learning and artificial intelligence improve the motivation of the trainees and the professionals being developed. As opposed to learners receiving general learning courses and materials covering generalized topics, machine learning makes it possible for learners to obtain specific and relevant course topics suiting their learning needs (McGuinness, 2018). Further, due to the manner in which the topics and materials are developed, learners can move at their own pace focusing on activities that resonate with them (Pappas, 2017). Due to this resonation and customization of educational content, the learners are motivated in their learning experiences.
Fifthly, machine learning promotes and improves the effectiveness of the training programs. Since the courses are tailored for the leaners, comprehensive big data application is included which predicts the outcomes based on the current activities (Pappas, 2017). This implies that with the use of artificial intelligence in the learning process, results are guaranteed to be successful. If the prediction is not positive, this technology allows the trainer and the facilitator to offer personalized training to prevent the future negative outcome (Pappas, 2017). This ensures that the effectiveness of machine learning and artificial intelligence is guaranteed.
In summation, it is evident from the discussion above that both the artificial intelligence and machine learning offer varied advantages to the learners and trainees. However, it is important to note that just like any other technology in the world, artificial intelligence and machine learning have their challenges. This is because some of the people are bound to take advantage of this technology to exploit others. With a positive mind and necessary approaches, it will be possible to overcome these challenges.
